Las rotaciones clínicas constituyen la etapa final del plan de estudios de Medicina, en la cual los estudiantes adquieren las habilidades técnicas y los conocimientos necesarios para garantizar el ejercicio óptimo de la profesión en un entorno supervisado.
Procedimientos e Instituciones
Las pasantías se llevarán a cabo en establecimientos de salud nacionales o internacionales, públicos o privados, aprobados por el Consejo Académico de la Universidad Dominicana O&M y cuyos convenios con la Escuela de Medicina hayan sido notificados al Ministerio de Educación Superior, Ciencia y Tecnología (MESCyT). Las áreas de rotación obligatoria mediante prácticas mensuales son: medicina interna, cirugía general, pediatría, psiquiatría, ginecología/obstetricia, medicina social, comunitaria y familiar.
El Decano de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud y el Director de la Escuela de Medicina podrán permitir a los estudiantes realizar rotaciones en diferentes programas respaldados por O&Med, siempre y cuando el centro médico esté certificado por el Ministerio de Salud Pública (MSP) de la República Dominicana o se tenga un acuerdo interinstitucional con un centro de salud internacional.
Los estudiantes que deseen hacer las rotaciones clínicas fuera del país deberán tener el índice académico acumulado requerido y solicitar autorización por escrito al Decano de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, a través del Director de la Escuela de Medicina. En la solicitud deberá indicarse el programa de interés y anexarse la carta de aceptación al programa de internado rotatorio, firmada por el director médico y la persona responsable de la coordinación académica del centro seleccionado. No obstante, el ciclo de rotación en medicina social, comunitaria y familiar deberá ser completado en un centro de salud certificado en la República Dominicana, tal como es establecido por el MESCyT.
The William J. Harrington Program
On Friday, March 10th, 2017, O&M Medical School (O&Med), signed a collaboration agreement with the Harrington Program of the University of Miami, Florida, USA, giving our students the opportunity to rotate for internal medicine and critical care, as well as pediatrics and surgical specialties at the Jackson Memorial Hospital facilities. Since 1967 this program has given the opportunity to international medical students and physicians from Latin America and the Caribbean, to observe clinical and surgical procedures at this well-known hospital in Florida.

Hospital Pediatrico Dr. Hugo Mendoza
O&Med signed a collaboration agreement with this prestigious institution, located in the east part of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, giving our students the opportunity to rotate for ambulatory areas of pediatrics and its sub-specialties, including neonatal critical care unit and infectious diseases.

Hospital General Regional Dr. Marcelino Velez Santana
O&Med signed an agreement with the Hospital General Regional Dr. Marcelino Velez Santana, a tertiary level health center, to allow our medical students to rotate for different clinical areas, including OBGYN, internal medicine and critical care, pediatrics and surgery.

CEPROSH
O&Med signed an agreement with the Center for the Promotion and Human Solidarity (CEPROSH), a private non-profit community service organization under the protection of Law No. 122-05, inaugurated in 1988, and amended in 1996 with Decree 375-96, located in Calle Professor Juan Bosch No. 52, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. This alliance allows our students to interact with patients of high vulnerability to sexually transmitted diseases (GLBT, men who have sex with men, migrants, etc.), due to their probability of being exposed to structural violence in rural and urban areas place at the in-country side of the Dominican Republic.

O&Med signed an agreement with the Hospital Dr. Ney Arias Lora, located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to allow our students to rotate for different surgical specialties areas, including neurosurgery, plastic surgery and cardiothoracic surgery.
